Infertility & Stress - Even Miracles take time. In todays fast paced world, career aspirations and deadlines , couples often find themselves at the wrong end of the pressure tunnel handling aspirations of themselves , family and sometimes society. Of course it’s a good idea to get evaluated to know if there are any basic issues with the couple but in many cases couples will realize that giving sufficient time and staying positive with doctors guidance can help them achieve their goal. We must accept the natural phenomena of conception carries a 10-15 % success rate each month. Further treatments like IUI if required carry a success rate of 20 - 25%. Even those couples who need IVF for fertility management, IVF has a success rate of 50- 60 % depending upon the couple. Couples start expecting magic results as soon as they start planning for a family.This rarely occurs in reality.What I would like to underline is the need to give the body sufficient time without the stress (mental and physical) for getting optimum results. Doing basic investigations for the couple can help identify a problem if any, but it also will reassure in majority that there is none. These couples can conceive naturally or with minimal assistance (medication and treatment). Unnatural pressure due to society, peers or comparison disturbs the body clock and natural rhythm and has detrimental effect on fertility outcome particularly because hormonal milieu is interconnected and a disturbed hormonal rhythm cannot give positive outcome. Whatever stress busters and relaxing techniques work for the couple should be tried. Some will find relaxation in yoga, exercise or vacation, others can find a relaxing hobby. This will be different for different couples and the best part is they can find out what works best for them. Conceiving and having a healthy baby is nothing short of a god given miracle. Miracles take time and the fruit of patience and positive attitude will always yield a beautiful outcome.
